The story tells of the charismatic characters and a community discovering its future by means of natural progression, love, harshness, and the blood of battle. Set in the future after the population had been drastically reduced and yesterday's world had mostly been reduced to dust. Those surviving people learned to exist by whatever means, tribal, violent, and in the main, hunters and gatherers. Their experience, sent them back a thousand years in history, where survival had to be and rediscovered. As natural selection moulded the desires and ambitions of all involved, the story watches history repeating itself. The journey forward for them includes conflict and dishonour, love and sorrow, fun and emotion, all the elements of life. While some of those instincts have been confused and changed by the awful experience of their forefathers and to a lesser degree, their own, they have reached that point in the human journey where some further order is required, (the wind of change had blown amongst them), allowing them and driving them forward towards a more secure and harmonious world. The journey is romanticized, as the story follows the path of the main character, Garr, as she moves from her violent youthful years into adulthood with the help and guidance of her older mentor, Knap. That, together with the re-bonding with her brother, love relationships, and eventually a family of her own, takes her on a journey towards a kingdom of worth. Her station in life had risen beyond her own comprehension and she is often called upon to make impossible decisions for the benefit of all and the future of that new world.

Whilst in their intense work schedule, an emotional relationship develops which is intermixed with personal and scientific difficulties that disrupt their love relationship. The science is a projection of possibilities, all be, in the story, the science is sound. We live in a world where land, sea and air temperatures are rising, causing chemical changes, hence environmental problems are spreading into our existence. Across species infection is on the increase, slowly rising sea levels, acidic oceans, dangerous algal blooms and endless amounts of pollution, filling our environment with ever-increasing risks to the human and wider world, hence, the future is threatening. If the global effort is not re-directed, we will continue to see species disappearing, and weather patterns changing. The story just touches on the edge of tomorrow's nightmares.

He finds the project far more demanding than he could have imagined, forcing him to think clearly about his political allegiances and how generating clear and practical policies, that could be acceptable to all avenues in society, really are to produce. Throughout the project his increasing wealth allows him to be who he would truly like to be. Such periods rarely last, and he is ultimately confronted by changing thoughts and circumstances, especially in his relationships. Fame becomes something he does not like, the forceness and stupidity of the questions and the questioners, the insincerity of it all, all be, holidays, a new car and other such pluses’ coarse conflicts for him. He wanted the money without the fame, he wanted the female relationships without the complications of total, long-term commitment. He wants to receive huge royalties without all the media attention. Can he ever go back to the old days of writing his fiction and having a couple of pints down at the Royal Oak? For sure, change is a continuing process and we either resist or go with the flow of life. Certainly, Robin James had discovered through his governmental project that his opinions were changeable and that the caution displayed throughout the political machine could be dangerously resistant and inappropriate, often lacking the courage required to make the obvious changes needed and most people recognised that. The question was whether he could apply those learnt lessons to his own life.
